Small changes can change your life

One of the most memorable things I learned when I was going to college in Japan was the concept of Kaizen. This is a Japanese term that means constant and never ending improvement. It was this concept that helped Japan become the economic and industrial power they are.

Part of the concept involves making small incremental changes. To learn more about this great concept check out One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way by Robert Maurer.  In this book he talks about how to use Kaizen to change your life. As I look back on times when I have tried to make certain changes in my life I have tried to do to much a once and lose focus. This year I have decided to use Kaizen and work on one thing a month.

Imagine what your life will look like if you change one thing a month. Imagine creating 12 positive habits. By the end of the year you could create a habit of working out daily, reading daily, spending more time with your kids, having weekly date nights with your spouse, creating and sticking to a budget, etc. You name it. In one year what could you accomplish.

Take a few moments and think of 12 things you would like to change this year. Assign each one to a month and then set action plans for each month.
