A moment of silence

The greatest sound in the world to a Parentpreneur is sometimes the sound of absolutely nothing. The sad thing is the rarity of this occasion. In my house you can often hear the sounds of the radio, tv, and two kids dancing and laughing, soon followed by a battle of who can cry the loudest.

I have to remind myself that the sounds of my kids laughing and crying are the sounds of healthy kids.  That being said my health also needs to stay good and a few minutes of quite goes a long ways towards that.  What’s even better is a few minutes alone.  This also applies to work as well. I’m generally serenaded by my phone at least fifty times a day. I need a break from that thing as well.

My coach has reminded me to take a few breaks throughout the day to recharge. Just the other night I was watching one of my new favorite shows, “The United Stats of America.” They said that people who take breaks every hour are more productive than those who don’t. Small breaks recharge you physically and mentally. I have read in some books where some CEO’s take a 15 minute nap everyday. Haven’t tried yet.  I sometimes just turn on some light music and veg for  a few.  Maybe a desk pillow is the new snuggie.

I’m writing to my congressman to see if he can draw up a law  that requires my kids to take a ten minute break every hour. I’m sure moms and dads nationwide would gladly support this. This type of proposal  could win a presidential election in the largest land slide ever.

Until congress makes it a law, you may have to be the one to figure it out for yourself.  Whether it’s glancing at a magazine, a quick walk or my favorite, ten minutes practicing my putting once a day, a break can make your day better.  Having one an hour may be tough. Try one a day to start and see how productivity and attitude increase.

Reading my blog is a good start.

Until next time – take a siesta,

Joseph Cortez
