Today I was leaving an appointment and running off to another side of town to show a house. It was approaching 1 pm and I hadn’t eaten lunch yet. My first thought was to grab a burger at a drive thru and head to my 2 pm early and check on a couple of other properties along the way. As I began mapping my route in my head I realized that I was going to be heading in the direction of my house. Friday’s are the only weekday that my wife and kids are all home during the day together. So I changed plans and went home instead of heading for the burger line. When I walked in a I saw my wife on the couch holding my youngest daughter who was just about nodding off. Then I heard a “Hi Daddy,” from my 3 year old’s bedroom. I went in and tucked her in. She gave a giant hug and told me how glad she was to see me. I went back to the living room and hugged my wife and she said the same.
A quick PB&J sandwich later, I was out the door off to show property. In the midst of a hectic day getting a hug from my girls was such a calming and energizing experience. I always remain grateful that I get opportunities such as these in my world. I know many people who don’t have the same luxury. Though you may not be able to physically hug those you love because of distance or scheduling throughout the day, take a few moments just to call and say I love you.
All the energy drinks in the world can’t pump you up as much as an “I love you” can. Perhaps the “I love you” you need mosts is with God. He will provide energy that last much longer than 5 hours.
Till next time – It’s a blessed life,
Joseph Cortez
