Strength of a Solid Foundation

The other day I passed a house that burned down a while back. All that is left is the concrete slab foundation.  The amazing thing is that this foundation can be used again and a new structure can be built on it.  Imagine if the foundation was built out of wood or clay. There would be nothing left, nothing to begin again with.  In life people have fires that bring tragedy and destroy everything around them.  If they do not have a solid foundation it may be impossible to rebuild their lives.  A lot of people base their lives on their career, financial success, physical stature and accomplishments. They look to things of the world as their reason for being, including other people. Basing life on these things is like building a foundation out of straw.  These things are not bad in themselves. They just can’t be all your life is based on.  The goal in life is to develop a solid foundation that will stand after tragedy.

I could not let this Christmas pass without sharing where I have my solid foundation.  My faith in Jesus Christ is my foundation and rock.   In Mathew 6 Jesus said

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

For me its a trust that God loves me and will never let me go. During tough times I can lean on his love.  Even when it seems like he’s far away I realize that he is always there and I have moved.  Life will not always be easy and times will get tough. When tragedy happens you need a solid foundation to rebuild on.  This Christmas as we celebrate his birth it is a good time to ask yourself what your foundation is made out of. Man and things of the world will crumble. God will stay solid for eternity.

Merry Christmas,

Joseph Cortez
