Resolutions

This time of year is “Resolution Time”. People are thinking about making changes.  The problem is most changes only last for a bit or never get started. I think the issue is that people go straight to the action of changing without giving much reason to the why behind it. Ultimately the changes people want; they want to last longer than a year.

One of the big changes I have been wanting is to physically feel better, more energized, and stronger. I had made the weight-loss resolution several times and even lost 30 lbs in 6 months, but gained it back.

This year my approach is a long term lifestyle change, not just achieving a number, but a feeling. I know if I feel physically better I will be a better husband, dad, Realtor, and business owner, etc.  This is the change I want, not just getting skinnier.

In order to achieve this feeling I am working towards I will take many of the same actions I would if I was just trying to lose weight. The difference is my attitude and reason for changing.  Since I am searching for a different result I have actually founder quicker success and pleasure from working out. After a full week of exercise I feel great, yet have lost little weight. If I was only focused on the weight I would be less excited this week, but I am feeling so good I want to keep going back because I know I will only begin to feel better.   If you know the why behind your actions then the actions will be easier to do. You got to believe the feeling you are going for is worth it. Imagine what feeling energized and healthy is like; picture what not smoking feels and looks like. Tapping into these images will keep you going.

So as you set your goals concentrate on the feeling and state you are trying to get. Being debt free brings freedom, losing weight brings self confidence and feelings of health, working on family relationships brings peace and joy, etc.  This simple change can make a huge difference in your results. If you have a reoccurring resolution, declare this be the last time you make it.  Be resolute in making a lifestyle change. Believe it, do it, live it.
