I heard a great quote this morning, “Life is a like a car, driven from the inside out.” This is such a profound quote. So many of us are pushed around by outside forces, our circumstances, the attitudes and opinions of others. We tend to focus on everything around us and we can forget who is steering our lives. Imagine if you were so focused on what’s going on around you that you forgot your were driving, CRASH! Same thing happens to us emotionally. By focusing all of our engery on the outside world we will have emotional crashes throughout our lives.
One of the areas I believe I crash a lot is being judgemental. I think we all do this without evening knowing it. This is the whole of appeal of talk shows and talent shows. Take America’s Got Talent, half the time I am watching it saying “I can’t believe they did that or what was that guy thinking.” Instead of cheering for the performer I an judging them. I have learned to catch myself and try to think of something I like about their act and so on. Same thing goes for people in our everyday lives.
We live in a very judgemental culture and it has become ingrained in our way of thinking. By taking a few moments to catch yourself you can change this thought pattern. The best result is that by judging less you will actually begin to judge yourself less and free yourself from the judgement of other. We spend way to much energy on such negative thinking.
Over the next couple of days take your life’s steering wheel and switch from judgement headlights to blessing lights.
When you catch yourself beginning to judge someone, say a quick prayer or blessing for that person. For example when your at the grocery store and the person in front of you is paying with a check, instead of thinking “Come one hurry up, us a credit card,” think something like “I hope they have fun eating with their family this week.”
Little actions like this will help you steer your life in a more positive direction.
God Bless,
