The Quiet Moments

I can’t believe it has been over a month since I have updated my blog. With a new baby in the house life’s priorities seem to have shifted. One such priority of mine that has been far and few between is taking quiet time. With the new business starting and my wonderful wife and daughter at home life is awesome, but busy. I have not made taking time to just sit with my thoughts and listen to God like I used to. I have taken quiet moments of the past for granted. Now I am in my home office at midnight enjoying quiet.

It’s hard in life to be at our best if we don’t take time to listen to ourselves or better put listen to our souls. Our culture seeks out the fast paced lifestyle full of multimedia blitzes and noise, constantly fighting for our attention all the while pulling our attention from God and our inner thoughts. We get to caught up in the minutia of everyday life and miss out on what God is trying to tell us. In order to reconnect we need to be still and listen. I have read that the reason that meditating for 30 minutes is ideal is that it takes people typically 15 to 20 minutes just to get past their current thoughts.

Take time today to just enjoy a few minutes with yourself and God just breathing and soaking up the day. You don’t have to get into a deep meditative state to connect with yourself or God. I have found just by turning off the phone and radio while driving allows me to think (of course you must pay attention to what you are doing). Even better take a 15 minute walk to start your day.

Find what works for you. I also enjoy lying in bed after reading and seeing my wife asleep and our daughter in the bassinet next to our bed, both looking beautiful and peaceful. It’s these moments that help melt away the stress of the day and in these moments truly understand that God wants us to enjoy and embrace the quite moments of life.
